Alfonzo Mendez on Tuesday was suspended by the Police department since it was found that the officer failed to take appropriate action when an 11-year-old girl suffered asthma attack, and died later.
Mr. Mendez was the officer who was identified for having failed at attempting CPR on the girl, Briana Ojeda, on Friday, after the victim’s mother informed him about her daughter’s condition.
Cameron Delgado, the mother of the girl, had banged into another vehicle while she tried to take her daughter to hospital after having suffered asthma attack while she played in Carroll Gardens Park in Brooklyn and she begged Mr. Mendez for help.
The mother had to take her daughter to hospital, which is after the officer informed her that he did not know how to attempt CPR.
Law enforcement officers confessed that Mr. Mendez, a veteran working with the police department who is trained in CPR, could not drive himself to the confidence level to attempt CPR.
Escorting the mother-daughter duo to hospital, Mr. Mendez drove off and did not even report about the happening as per NYPD rules.
Internal Affairs officers detected Mr. Mendez after they showed his photo to the mother.
