An Explorer Police Car in the Inventory of Ford

As announced by Ford Motor Co., it would launch its new law-enforcement version of Explorer sport-utility vehicle by next year. A few months back, the Company showed its police version of the Ford Taurus.

Ford already captures three-fourth of the U. S. market for police cars. The Ford Explorer’s new version is known as "Police Interceptor utility vehicle" and is being made such that it offers at least 20% extra gas mileage than Ford Crown Victoria. The Company has also decided to stop the production of Crown Victoria after 2011, a basic police car and taxicab.

The new vehicle will be used by the law enforcement officials. It has a 3.5-liter V-6 engine that provides horsepower of 280. It has the facility to run on E85 ethanol mixed fuel.

The police interceptor SUV can hold up to 800 pounds of guns, ammo, suspects, K-9s and such related things needed by police. It is embedded with six-speed automatic transmission. It can endure a 75 mile-per-hour blow from behind.

Mark Fields, Ford's president of The Americas, said, "We're offering law enforcement officials a complete portfolio of options that are purpose-built, capable and delivered with the safety, technology and performance they need to excel at their jobs".
