Carruth Day Care might be Saved from Closure

Following a series of demonstrations, it seems that Tauranga's day care centre for the seniors might not face a closure. On Sunday, it was declared at a convention where careproviders and oldies had come together that the Bay of Plenty District Health Board was trying hard to prevent Carruth Day Care from shutting down.

Sarah Davey, who is the Bay of Plenty District Health Board portfolio manager for health of the elderly, said that the health board was marketing for a new supplier and premises. She said that the gathering of around 90 people brings to light the significance that the service holds to the elders and the care giving society.

Though, the associates of Carruth member, Graeme Lingard said that the piece of news is brilliant, they communicated guarded optimism to those who were present at the gathering.

He said, "I told them 'don't start popping the champagne cork just yet but you can put them in the fridge to get them cool'".

Mr. Lingard acknowledged the support extended by the health board saying, "now we know the health board is in negotiations with some possible providers".

For the past 30 years, Carruth Day Care Centre has been running in Tauranga.
