A cancer survivor and an actor, Lisa Ray, from Canada, flew to India, looking as fresh as a daisy. She came at the inauguration of a new cancer treatment centre in the city and thrilled everyone with her inspiring words.
Lisa Ray had been diagnosed with cancer two years ago and is still living with the ailment. In her speech, she said that cancer is more about being a psychological component in one’s life rather than being merely a physiological disorder.
She expressed gratitude to her family and said that it’s because of them, and some other people in her life, that she is able to survive; however, she added that she has not been able to understand that what this disease had taught her in life.
While recalling few tough moments in her life, Lisa Ray added, “Cancer is not about healing the body. It’s about healing the mind. As a patient, I also had to go through fear and isolation”. An award in her name has also been announced by the Fortis Group, ‘for women who survive cancer and emerge strong and victorious’.
Group Chairman of Fortis, Malwinder Singh, appreciated Lisa’s bravery and said that she is the true example of living without fear, and that the award is perfect in her name.
