Police arrested four Greenpeace activists after they stopped carrying out their drilling work being performed at a British-owned oil exploration rig of Greenland, due to the disturbances in the weather conditions.
The four activists, who left the work before the stipulated time of 48 hours, after the high winds disturbed the Stena Don drilling rig overnight were arrested by Greenlandic police.
The accusers were arrested between 8pm and midnight local time last night, who shunned their activities after the strong winds, disrupted the platform made by them, as told by Morten Nielsen, Deputy Head of Greenland police.
"It took about four hours to retrieve the protesters, who have now been arrested under Greenlandic regulations for breaching the 500m safety zone around the rig and under Danish criminal law for trespass", said Nielsen.
Adding to this, he told that the four men will appear before the court in 24 hours, after they had been sent to Aasiaat. There are also chances that they could be extradited.
The project was initiated by Cairn Energy, an Edinburgh-based exploration firm and the episode of activists could leave the Greenpeace in a distressed state.
As stated by Cairn, the work at the site had begun again. Also, there could be no threat to the project's efficiency, if it halts for four or five days, as the Company has already provisioned that in its schedule, as expressed by industry campaigners.
