According to the regulator, four of the six largest energy supply firms of UK are accused of mis-selling to the customers and to be investigated by a regulatory committee.
The four companies under the allegation are Scottish Power, EDF Energy, Npower and Scottish and Southern Energy. The energy supply regulator Ofgem has said it had received various evidences from different sources that the energy firms could have breached the new rules of energy supply.
Ofgem will investigate this issue with the help of other government regulators. The regulator has the power to fine up to 10% of the company’s turnover if the company breaches the rules. Previously Ofgem fined 1.8 million pounds to Npower in the year 2008 and the London Electricity which is now a part of EDF Energy was fined with 2 million pounds in the year 2002.
All of the four energy firms will be investigated thoroughly whether they have breached the new license agreement or not and the regulator has told to take strong action if they found to be guilty. On the other hand, the four energy firms denied to the mis-selling claims straight away.
