On Wednesday, a second open house will be conducted by the City of Vancouver over the planned separated bike lane to be built at Hornby Street. The design of the lane and its details were unveiled by the city, on September 1.
The pictures of the block by block framework of the separated bike lane were uploaded by the city on its website, on Thursday. The second open house has been declared to answer the concerns and queries of the residents and in order to get feedback.
In the images, it was shown that how the lane will handle traffic and how the parking and bus stops will be positioned. Taking an instance, the intersection of Hornby and West Georgia alongside Hotel Vancouver, which remains trafficked has been eliminated, so as to make two through lanes, one turning lane and the bike lane; divided by a series of flower boxes.
The separated bike lane at Hornby Street would provide the riders a safe cycling network, as expressed by Mayor Gregor Robertson.
He said, “It connects seawalls from Coal Harbour to False Creek, and linking both the Burrard Bridge and the Dunsmuir bike lanes".
In the first open house, 2000 comments were made regarding the bike route.
