The London scheme put forth so that there can be a reduction in the traffic congestion, is being supported by as much as 70,000 people from the day of its launch in the month of July.
This bicycle scheme, namely 'Boris Bikes' is like the one which is currently operating in the UK and has been allocated for some highly populated areas of Jersey.
The name is so, after the Mayor of London Boris Johnson and St. Helier, St. Saviour and St. Aubin have been chosen as the ideal spots meant for the purpose. This scheme is likely to be London's first large-scale public bike hire scheme and Transport Minister Mike Jackson says that it is still in its early stage.
For anyone who has signed in for this Barclays-sponsored scheme has an advantage over the others. They can just take a bike from some 400 docking stations across the city and then after they have finished with their work then can return it to any of the stations.
"We have to make land available, which is never easy in Jersey. Main areas of habitation, including St Helier, St Saviour and St Aubin would be 'ideal spots' ", said the Minister.
