According to the journal, Cell, the risk of developing diabetes and inflammation can come down by the intake of omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids are found to be in abundance in fish oil supplements.
Researchers at the University of California, San Diego, in a study which was conducted recently, had provided diets high in omega-3 fatty acids to mice. One diet contained omega-3 fatty acids while the other did not. It was found that mice which consumed the diet rich in omega-3 fatty acid showed better results with inflammation coming down and better levels of insulin.
Though, in studies which have been conducted earlier it was found that the chances of stroke and bleeding are increased with the consumption of fish oil supplements. Investigators have thus revealed that in order to hold the finding good, deeper study is required into the subject.
The Brooklyn Hospital Center Chief of endocrinology, Dr. Jacob Warman exclaimed the outcome of results to impressive, though he further shared the sentiments with investigators at the University of California, stating that further studies were required in to the finding.
The American Heart Association has further added that in addition to reducing diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular diseases, fish oil supplements also help in reducing blood pressure and irregular heartbeats.
