Alberta Health Services (AHS) issued a public warning, after an outbreak of Hepatitis A at one of McDonald’s branches in Lethbridge, Canada. After a series of investigations, the reason of the outbreak was detected with officials confirming that one of the food handlers was actually infected with the virus.
The disease was transmitted through the customers, among which only 250 cases only were diagnosed and confirmed to have the infection.
Officials at the Health Service alerted the people who had food at the Scenic Drive McDonald’s in the duration between the 20th and the 22nd of August were exposed to Hepatitis A and might have been having the infection.
Kerry Williamson, the Spokesman of AHS, said, “In most cases the person is diagnosed, treated and that’s that. The difference with these cases is that they’re food handlers.”
She also said that the vaccines against the virus are available in a clinic at the South Calgary Health Centre, this weekend for those who have been present in McDonald’s at the time of exposure, adding that the people who have already caught the Hepatitis A infection in the past and received any doses of the vaccine, should not be worrying of that recent exposure.
