Asil Nadir reached the U.K last week, after a time span of 17years and appeared for a hearing in the court of a jam packed Old Bailey judge. Asil Nadir had been charged with 66 cases of theft and false accounting 17 years ago, when he decamped with a £34million.
The £34million embezzlement was committed by Nadir after the collapse of his Polly Peck venture. The authorities would have to find out 183 witnesses, in order to restart the proceedings against Nadir.
Asil Nadir was listed as the 36th richest man on the Sunday Times Rich List at a point of time. He was also stated to be a known donor for the Conservatives.
Nadir who reached the court with his 26 year old wife, Nur, was granted bail after depositing a surety of £250,000.
The court has granted him bail on the grounds that he would have to be under a curfew from 12 am till 6 am in the morning. He would also have to report to the Chelsea police station on a weekly basis. Mr. Nadir was also asked to give up his passports.
The court had ordered an electronic tag to be deployed on Nadir, but according to the reports it could not be attached, citing technical reasons.
