Man injured after dashing from ambulance and hit by a taxi

A man jumped out from an ambulance and rushed across the Mitchell Fwy where he was hit by an ongoing taxi causing internal injuries to him along with a broken leg.

The 60-year old was being taken from his Girrawheen house to hospital about 11pm when he got irritated in the back of the ambulance, north of the Karrinyup Rd off the ramp. He became very aggressive at the back of the vehicle on the way to the hospital and the paramedics could not calm him down in the moving ambulance.

The man dashed out of the ambulance across the freeway towards the oncoming traffic when the driver turned the vehicle into the emergency lane to try and calm his patient down. Before the ambulance could halt and he could be calmed down he escaped and jumped out of the vehicle.

As a result of the hasty jump on a busy road the man was struck by an oncoming taxi suffering internal injuries and a broken leg and was rushed to the Royal Perth Hospital in the waiting ambulance.
