Australia Grants Sony a Ban against Hackers

After the court’s rule, OzModChips, Mod Supplier and Quantronics are no longer allowed to distribute or sell the PS3Jailbreak “dongle” in Australia.

The Australian court declared a permanent ban on the distribution of the dongle, which enabled the internet users to hack the PlayStation 3 (PS3), which is manufactured and developed by Sony, on an international level. In addition, the court’s rule obliged any distributor to hand on any stocks of the dongle, and of any hacked software application.

The hackers developed the dongle for internet users to load the unlicensed games on the PS3, and according to Mathieu Hervais, one of the hackers responsible for the development and distribution of the dongle known as PSGroove, this was a kind of “compromise” that would keep all the parties happy.

He also stated that he and his team do understand the point of view of the original manufacturers of the game and that they have to protect their product, but he added, “We released it on the internet because we believe in openness, choice and innovation from everyone”.

The site selling this service, which is called Zoomba, went to court as a result of Sony pressing charges against it on Friday, to grant the same ban in the US. Zoomba is the firm running, shopPSjailbreak. com.
