Facebook, the increasingly controversial and the largest social network, launched a new search tool application using the ‘likes’ to sort new stories in the search results. Starting this week, the articles that the user’s friends, or anybody on his network, have ‘liked’ would be appearing at the top of the page of the search results.
Among the ranks of Social Networks and Online Communities, Facebook stays at the top of the category, beating both iPhone and O2.
Although, Facebook did not comment on this information and did not confirm any part of it, experts stated that such a move, at a point where Facebook is already under scrutiny for privacy issues would definitely backfire the social network’s reputation.
However, some figures that were revealed in the last week showed that Facebook was ranked number 6 among other websites, offering the search tool, in the UK. Facebook came first against YouTube, BBC, Hotmail and EBay.
Facebook’s fan base did not seem to be affected by any of these current changes as much as it has been affected by the cases of privacy violations and the agreement breaches, in which Facebook was involved earlier, this quarter.
