BCN released some data on Wednesday regarding Sony’s retail rates, showing that the latest product of the Japanese manufacturer and retailer, the Sony Walkman managed to top the sales of iPod, the portable media player released by Apple, in Japan.
For Sony, this overtaking is a dream coming true, as the giant targeted knocking Apple down from its royal castle of high revenues and market domination, in the field of music players.
In addition, Sony announced that by fall, the markets of five European countries would be flushed with a brand new video streaming service, which would allow the Company to increase its retail massively. This new technology is expected to change the market’s map of media players by the end of 2010.
This victory over Apple was attributed to the newly developed music and movie streaming service, which would be supported by cloud. However, Apple’s reply would be in the form of a digital iPod music player, which is intended to expand the Company’s digital distribution.
The Chief Executive Officer of Apple Corporation, Steve Jobs stated at a press conference held in San Francisco that the iPod users would soon be able to update their devices with a software that supports certain games.
