Federal Trade Commission has decided to take legal action against an Internet Company, who sells weight-loss supplement called Acai Berry.
In the year 2009, the Company was found to earn $30 million from its customers by selling Acai Berry products.
The FTC says that there are many such Companies who are fooling the customers and squeezing money from them. Many people have launched complaints against the guilty Company. People say that the free of cost monthly scheme has some hidden charges attached to it, which the Company never reveals.
In the last two to three years, the craze for Acai Berry among the health-conscious people has increased significantly. Acai Berry comes from Acai palm trees, which grow in Latin America.
There is no scientific proof that Acai Berry really helps in losing weight.
The High Court ordered the closing down of 27 companies, which were found cheating the customers. In an investigation conducted by the Insolvency Service, it was revealed that as many as seven online health supplement selling Companies made an income of £12 million by providing fraud schemes.
It is apposite to note that the sale of this supplement has increased because of its publicity by many celebrities like actors Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey.
Recently, Oprah Winfrey, who is the famous anchor of the talk show Oprah, filed a case against those companies, which stated that their products have been endorsed by her.
