Kelantan has recently introduced a gold Dinar called Petaling Jaya, which has been bought by most of the people for investment purposes.
The Dinar and the silver Dirham have been issued by the Kelantan Gold Trade, who has said in its statement that since the time they have launched it, about RM1mil worth of Dirham and RM1.5mil worth of Dinar had been sold.
“We kindly request the public to wait until after Aidilfitri if they wish to purchase any more dinars. Now, only the dirham coins are available,” said KGT Chief Executive Officer, Umar Ibrahim Vadiloo to reporters, on Saturday.
Umar also said that about 150,000 Dinar and Dirham coins had been made by the Company and many people had purchased them for investment purposes.
KGT is the subsidiary of Kelantan Mentri Besar Corporation, which also manages the syariah-compliant currency.
Currently, a Dirham is worth about RM13 and a Dinar is RM592, but their values keep on changing in accordance to the market price.
Islamic law considers that the Dirham coin is 3.0 grams of pure silver and the Dinar coin is 4.25 grams of gold.
In addition to this, Kelantan Golden Trade emphasized on the fact that the coins, which are being sold by their Company, are not lawful tender.
