Identifying the causes that trigger dementia in older people is what scientists from the University of Edinburgh desire to do.

A spokesperson from the university said that the clumping where proteins’ behavioral patterns take some twists and turns during the ageing procedure finally results in a number of conditions, such as sight loss, Alzheimer’s disease and various forms, all conditions mostly affecting the elderly.

When protein accumulates, it in turn causes brain plaques related to Alzheimer’s disease, and cataracts as a result cause cloudy vision.

Positive hopes are kept from the study regarding it helping the scientists to recognize the main causes due to which proteins bind together, which possibly will lead to the formation of new drugs so as to prevent the condition from developing.

The leader of the study is Dr. Cait MacPhee from the University’s School of Physics and Astronomy.

As informed by her, the proteins frequently bind into one, forming a bunch which then causes processes in the body system to break down.

Since the process is very common to a lot of diseases, it is hoped that the group of researchers can understand the technique in which it occurs, offering an insight into an array of conditions that have an impact upon the ageing process.
