According to a recent Dow Jones Newswires report, Samsung Electronics, the leading computer memory chips maker in the world, is contemplating a 30 trillion won ($25.55 billion) investment in existing and new businesses next year.

The report further added that the company will likely invest 26 trillion won this year.

As per the report, the Samsung Electronics CEO Choi Gee-sung said at the consumer-electronics show IFA in Germany: “It's difficult to set a clear plan for the coming year 2011, but we're considering around 30 trillion won in investments.”

Noting that chip demand was very good at present, Choi said that the investment decision largely depends on whether the current market conditions are sustained as per the company’s initial expectations.

Samsung, which in its early years was largely a copycat appliance manufacturer, has been steadily taking notable strides in the direction of becoming a global innovator, featuring among one of the topmost brands in the world.

Over the last decade, Samsung has beaten Sony Corp. to emerge as the biggest maker of flat-panel TVs; and has edged out Hewlett-Packard in color laser printers. It is now pushing its impressive Galaxy S smartphone models to challenge the Apple iPhone!

While Samsung’s annual revenue has already quadrupled to 139 trillion won in the ten years that ended in 2009; the company is now aiming at another nearly three-fold increase in revenue by 2020.
