According to a Queensland top health official, registration of the medical professionals should be speeded up, else the lives of the residents would be put in danger. Mick Reid, Queensland Health's Director-General said that the process should be fast-tracked.
The newly formed Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency was under attack by the Director-General. He said that it is imperative that the best procedures are put in place, otherwise public wellbeing might suffer.
He added, "Queensland has the greatest growth rate of health professional groups than any other state, we're the ones who are impacted most by the delays in processing and inappropriate bureaucratic red tape".
According to reports, a large number of candidates are bogged down by the holdups in the registration process.
Since the time the agency came into effect on July 1, it was engulfed with problems relating to the registration of doctors, nurses and other health experts.
Mr. Reid said that the completion of the registration process should be high on priority, as it would pave way for a well-organized procedure for applicants. He remarked that the delays in new registrations and renewals of registration can be mainly seen in medicine and nursing.
