Wagga Base Hospital Gets Less Funds than Other Hospitals

The Federal Health Minister, Nicola Roxon has promised the Tasmanian Independent Andrew Wilkie to give $100 million for Hobart Hospital, if he manages to form a Government.

The ABC's Insiders Program asked the Health Minister to give explanations on why Hobart Hospital has got more funds than Wagga Hospital.

The Minister refused to accept that she has favored Hobart Hospital just because an independent seat is present in Denison and not in Riverina.

She also said that she has full sympathy for the Wagga Hospital, but State Government priorities cannot be overlooked.

She assured that this time applications from Wagga Hospital for funding will be looked into seriously. Wagga Hospital can apply for $1.8 billion, which has been secured by the Mr. Wilkie.

Richard Harrison, who is the Chairman of the Medical Staff Council at Wagga Wagga Base Hospital, is hopeful that the Hospital will manage to get more than $90 million.

He further added that it is good that media has questioned the Health Minister for having a biased approach towards the Wagga Hospital.

Tamworth Base Hospital also managed to get better funds as compared to Wagga Base Hospital, as independent Tony Windsor got the chance to form the Government.
