Radiographers Strike Poses Risk For Patient Safety
Radiographers Strike

The 24-hour national strike launched by radiographers is witnessed to have landed senior doctors in frenzy, fearing the delay that people would have to face in the hospitals.

Besides, the major concern hovering above is the safety of patients as operations would be delayed due to the strike action.

The agitation is a result of the downfall of the contract negotiations between their union, Apex, hailing of over 800 radiographers and district health boards that took place two weeks ago.

The strike action is scheduled to be kicked off this morning from 7am would witness participation from a whopping 800 medical radiation technicians from all the public hospitals.

However, staff at Christchurch would be deployed on their duties in a view to continue with the treatments to the victims of Saturday’s disastrous earthquake.

The action has forced the Wellington's Capital & Coast District Health Board to postpone all the cardiac and spinal surgeries in addition, to other major operations that could not take place without radiography services.

Dr Hicks posted, "The group that are struggling the most are the group of senior doctors who are getting phoned and having to decide whether this does or doesn't meet the criteria for a life-preserving situation”.
