NHS Nurses to be in Bolton for Free BP Tests

People residing in Bolton would be provided the opportunity to be screened for blood pressure free of cost. People, who are usually unaware that they have the condition of high blood pressure, face the risk of a heart attack, kidney failure and a stroke.

A campaign, which is a part of Know Your Numbers initiative, would be offering free blood pressure screening to the residents of Bolton.

NHS nurses would be a part of the campaign and would be advising people with high blood pressure to follow a simple formula to control their blood pressure like lowering consumption of salt, regular exercise, keeping a control on their weight and a check on the consumption of alcohol.

High blood pressure is also known to be a major reason behind people suffering strokes. In further information that was meted out it was stated that the reason 40% people suffer strokes, is because their condition of high blood pressure is undiagnosed.

Going by numbers, it was found that of the 500 people who had been in hospital care, 10 people were provided hospital care because they had experienced strokes in the year 2009 – 2010.

Strokes are known to be the third biggest reason for deaths in the United Kingdom.

The initiative Know Your Numbers has been launched because of the parent initiative known as FAST, which is related to spreading awareness regarding strokes. FAST, stands for Face, Arm, Speech and Time.
