Methamphetamine Users on Rise in New Zealand

It has been found that more and more people in New Zealand are falling prey to the fatal and highly addictive drug known as methamphetamine, which is also known as P among users.

In a study conducted on a thousand people by the Stellar trust, which was set up to combat the widespread use of methamphetamine in New Zealand, it was discovered that 10% of the respondents confirmed that they have been offered to try the narcotic drug.

The study further stated that people would like the authorities to take further steps in order to combat the growing influence of the P-drug. Respondents have asked for greater authority with the police, more information to be provided in schools and jail sentences with more strictness, so as to combat the drug.

Burton Shipley, Chairman Stellar Trust stated, "New Zealanders believe there is so much more that can be done in the fight against P".

Mr. Shipley further added that despite the Government’s launching of stricter rules regarding the use of the drug in the month of October, there still seemed to be a feeling of insecurity among the majority of the people.

It was also found that nearly one-third of New Zealanders whose income was or above $50,000NZ, were asked if they would like to try the drug.
