The Marlborough public would be feasting on pacific oysters if the application for the manufacture and sale of oysters by a couple from Rai Valley is approved by the Marlborough District Council.
The couple is looking to start a processing plant for seafood on a small-scale from their marine farm, which is on the north side of Okiwi Bay, in Croiselles Harbor. The couple would be looking to capture clams from their farm and then ship the oysters by road to their residence 45km away.
Hopefully, the oyster processing plant would be up and running before the onset of Christmas season.
The couple, John and Faye Fosbender further stated that though Marlborough was renowned for its mussels, oysters have been unheard of regarding production in the region. They would be looking to process up to 300 oysters, in a week.
Mr. Fosbender further stated that though many oysters were grown in the Marlborough region, a number of them were sold and there was negligible commercial activity regarding them.
Shop owners have already shown keenness in the oysters and are eager to help in the promotion of the business. Regarding the process of manufacturing of the oysters, they would be chilled, cooked and packaged for sale to shop owners.
Mr. Fosbender, further expressed confidence regarding the approval for the venture by the Marlborough District Council.
