Finally, the pioneering Wave Hub device has been successfully installed by South West Regional Development Agency (RDA) in the north Cornish coast, after taking a long time of seven years and series of delays at last minutes.
The agency has further established that UK has an ability to become the world’s leading test centre for the marine energy.
On Friday, the final phase of installation operation was started and the cable-laying vessel Nordica plugged onto the seabed of 12-tonne socket. To fix the position of four 300-metre cables, a weekend had been spent by a Specialist contractor CTC Marine.
Four berths will be served by the four 300-metre cables and with the help of this; mainland will get energy from prototype wave energy devices.
One of the berths will be installed with the PowerBuoy wave energy converter by Ocean Power Technologies (OPT).
These days, RDA is negotiating with the number of other marine energy developers about using the test hub.
UK Science Minister David Willetts has welcomed this successful operation by the RDA. "The UK is already leading the way with 25 per cent of the world's wave and tidal technologies being developed here", he said.
