Payment data from Eftos gave confirmation that Saturday’s earthquake did hit Canterbury’s economic setting, which revealed that trading in the region was weak by around one-third, in comparison to the same time, during the previous year.
Overall spending all across the Paymark Eftpos systems network in Canterbury over Father’s Day weekend slumped by 32%, than the previous year, data showed.
Comparing the similar time that was seen in the preceding year to that of this one, it depicted that Saturday’s sales sank by 43% and sales on Sunday, too crumpled by 18%.
As informed by Paymark, all retail regions were suffering from the aftereffects of the earthquake that shook up the region’s economy, since Father’s day always gave striking results, but not this time.
The gift stores saw their sales plunge by 81%, photo stores by 79% and electronic stores’ sales weakened by 77%.
The shortage measured in the trade followed an already broken setting that had been seen in Canterbury trade, where details depicted that electronic card payments slumped by 0.6%, in contrast with the one seen in the previous year, at the same time.
In 2008-2009 term period, difficult months were witnessed from November, till February.
Last year’s household appliances sales were at a better spot surging 23%, than the one seen this year.
