Apple iPad- the Netbook Killer
Apple iPad- the Netbook Killer

Denying speculations that the iPad was having a negative effect on Mac sales, Maynard Um with UBS Investment Research has asserted that the only effect of iPad so far has been on the PC industry.

He too has reportedly augmented the price target for AAPL stock from $340 to $350. While the reports suggest that the consumers in the year 2011 have planned to buy 28 million touchscreen tablets, there has been an ever increasing threat that this would result in a reduction in sales of the low-end notebook PCs.

This reduction in sales will however be only for the lower end of PC’s due to the price range. The Apple iPad prices are ranging in close association with these PC’s and therefore the offer appeals to the consumers.

"We are not sold that the iPad is purely cannibalizing PC sales, as the functionality of the iPad cannot yet deliver the functionality of notebook PCs”, Um further added. Calling the potential sales of Apple iPad as ‘conservative’, Um asserted that there even was probability that the buyers would wait for some time to take a glance of the upgraded range of existing PCs.

There are some who believe that it is wrong to say that iPad’s would take up over the Netbooks, as the Netbooks have already formed a market of their own and iPad is far away from being termed as a Netbook killer.
