BP to launch internal investigation over Gulf oil spill

The oil giant BP has decided to launch an investigation for the Gulf of Mexico oil spill which has been the largest environmental disaster in the history of US. It also caused a huge loss to the British oil giant making the largest loss for any British company ever.

The investigation from US government has taken five months to complete and accused BP and other companies involved in the drilling for the mishandling of the oil well.

The safety equipments failed on the Deepwater Horizon after an explosion took place on it on 20th of April killing 11 people on the site and caused the disastrous oil spill. This report will help BP to defend itself in the legal proceedings.

As per an estimate about 4.9 million barrels of oil gushed in to sea water after the explosion till the cap was sealed by BP. Only 800,000 barrels of leaked oil were captured by the officials.

A temporary cap was used to seal the oil well was placed on 15th of July and the efforts to seal the oil well permanently is due to take place in next few weeks.
