As per a study carried out by researchers in the United States, kids belonging to the age group of four or less, sleeping for less than 10 hours, increase their likelihood of becoming obese by almost two times by the later periods of life.
A group of researchers from the University of California and University of Washington in Seattle gauged a connection between weight and sleep in almost 1,930 kids, aged up to 13 years, who partook in a poll in 1997 and once more after five years, in the year 2002.
Kids aged 4 or less who slept for no more than 10 hours each night at the first survey were related to almost running two time's higher chances of becoming overweight or obese by the time the, second survey was conducted.
For kids aged above 4, connection between sleep duration and weight was not made during the first and second surveys. However, less sleep duration was related to the raised possibilities of a shift from getting normal to overweight.
The National Sleep Foundation is of the suggestion that preschoolers should sleep for 12-14 hours, 3-5 years old should sleep for 11-13 hours and 5-10 years old must sleep for 10-11 hours.
