Health Workers Shouldn’t Shun Vaccinations: AAP

The American Academy of Pediatrics has come up against the low number of health workers being vaccinated. The Pediatrics group has also further stated that it should be a moral and formal obligation which health workers cannot ignore.

AAP, one of the largest associations of pediatricians in America have further stated that health workers should get themselves vaccinated against the flu in order to safeguard the interests of patients. They further stated that by not getting vaccinated health workers are putting at risk, patients, their families and themselves.

The American Academy of Pediatrics further stated that the vaccination programs at hospitals did not have much effect in vaccination levels as all of them involved voluntary vaccination. The association further announced that evidence has been found which pointed fingers towards health workers who had passed on the flu to patients.

The academy further pressed for hospitals to implement mandatory vaccination programs though they further stated that the decision should be solely up to the hospital authorities.

Vaccination levels at an average at hospitals across America have been stated to be just around 40% whereas it has been estimated that 80% of medical workers should be vaccinated in order to minimize the transmission and spread of the flu.
