A new film based on spreading and raising awareness about the fatal Alzheimer's disease and dementia is reported to have received commissioning from the Health Promotion Board.
The local Director, Royston Tan hails to be the director of the short film centering on dementia. The six minute film boasts of its title -- `Ah Kong'.
In addition, the film aims to eradicate the stigma associated with the disease so that people surviving with the disease can come forward to seek medical treatment and can recuperate.
The disease is reported to have engulfed over 5.2% of the population of Singapore aged 60 years and above, accounting to over 22,000 Singaporeans.
The moving story of the film features an afflicting story of a grandson, whose grandfather is diagnosed with dementia. The grandson shows his full empathy towards his grandfather's condition and seeks to understand and reach out to his grandfather.
The two-minute version of the movie is slated to be aired on Channel 8, Suria and Vasantham on September 26, 2010. For those anticipating the full-length version, the complete six minute story can be admired on YouTube.
The movie would also be available on DVDs and would be distributed at Poh Kim and VideoEzy outlets for free.
