Retirement Age in Germany may Increase up to 67

According to `German Age Survey', the retirement age limit for Germans has increased from 62 to 63.

Till 2002, the age limit was 62 years, but after that the people started working till 63.

As per the survey, in Germany the ageing population is increasing at a rapid rate and people of this age group are living longer.

So in the coming times, it is assumed that the official retirement age limit is slated to increase from 65 to 67 years.

One-third of people who were 60 years old in 2008 are still working, and the number is up by 13% from 2002.

The data also shows that citizens of Britain, Scandinavian countries, and Switzerland prefer to work for longer period of time, whereas people from southern European countries tend to retire early.

The study also reveals that elderly people usually prefer to do part-time jobs rather than full time work. They feel that working for a few hours in order to fulfill the needs is better than completely stop working.

As per the study, which was conducted by the Family Ministry, many people ranging from 40 to 85 age group want to do some social work, but don't know whom to approach for this.

Kristina Schroeder, who is the Family Minister, said that the plan to increase the retirement age up to 67 is still in its initial stage and might take time to get implemented.
