Continuing with the ritual of unveiling new iPods in September every year, Apple CEO Steve Jobs announced a new lineup of iPod models at a Thursday press event. The announcement, marking the ninth annual iteration of the popular iPod, unveiled the new models of the device just in time for this year’s holiday season.

The 2010 iPod Shuffle model is fairly similar to the Shuffle introduced two years back and features playback and volume buttons. The new 1.1 x 1.2 x 0.3-inch Shuffle, priced at $50, is available in five metallic colors and boasts the computer-generated voice feature and 2GB storage.

The new iPod Nano model does away with the click wheel, camcorder, video playback, and speaker, and features a smooth-to-touch and easy-to-use glass touchscreen like that of the iPhone. The 8GB model of the 1.5 x 1.6 x
0.4-inch square new Nano costs $150; while the 16GB model costs $180.

Undoubtedly the most fetching of the new iPod models is the iPhone-like 4.4 x 2.3 x 0.28-inch iPod Touch which can run 250,000 apps. Equipped with front and back video cameras, microphone, built-in mike and speaker, and the iPhone 4’s high-resolution screen, the new Touch costs $230 and $400 for the 8GB and 64GB models respectively.

About the new Touch, Engadet’s Joshua Topolsky said: “With the addition of HD video shooting, the new Retina Display, and a faster A4 processor, the Touch has just gone from ‘nice to have’ to nearly irresistible.”
