Nelson comes up big in fourth quarter, Magic top Lakers

Nelson comes up big in fourth quarter, Magic top LakersLos Angeles - Jameer Nelson did his best impersonation of Los Angeles Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant down the stretch, and the Orlando Magic came out on top.

Nelson poured in 15 of his 28 points in the fourth quarter, including the go-ahead three-pointer with 35.7 seconds left, and the visiting Magic edged the Lakers 109-103 on Friday night in a showdown of two of the NBA's elite teams.

"Kobe don't miss in the fourth quarter, but little Jameer hit some big shots for us. That's what he's here for," said Magic centre Dwight Howard, after a monster 25-point, 20 rebound effort. "If he wasn't in the game, it probably would have been a different story right now."

Rashard Lewis scored 16 and Turkey's Hedo Turkoglu finished with 13 for Orlando (32-8) which swept the two-game season series for the first time in franchise history.

Bryant led the Western Conference-leading Lakers (31-8) with 28 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists for his 15th career double, but first since April 17, 2005.

Regarded as one of the game's top closers with the game on the line, Bryant missed eight-of-11 shots in the final frame, including three in the final seconds.

The Lakers led 103-101 on Pau Gasol's (13 points) layup off Bryant's miss with 52 seconds left. Nelson, however, drilled his third triple of the game from the left wing, putting the Magic in front for good, 104-103.

Bryant misfired from the right corner with 18 ticks remaining, and Nelson made both free throws, making it 106-103. Bryant looked to knot the game, but his three-point try rimmed out.

"I had a great look, great, great look and it just didn't want to stay down for me," said Bryant, the league's reigning MVP.

Again Nelson hit two from the stripe with 7.9 seconds left, sealing the Magic's sixth straight victory, while improving its road record to a league-best 16-5.

"It was a big-time win," Nelson said. "The thing that we have been doing all season is when we have leads and we give them up, we have a swagger about us that no one is going to get back into the game, even if we are down."
