West Nile Virus Spreads its Menace in 20 Connecticut Towns

As reported by Dr. J. Robert Galvin, Commissioner, Department of Public Health, the mosquitoes of twenty Connecticut towns have been detected positive with West Nile Virus.

The virus has infected 20 towns naming; Bethel, Bridgeport, Darien, Fairfield, Greenwich, Manchester, Meriden, Milford, Newtown, Norwalk, New Britain, New Haven, Orange, Stamford, Stratford, Trumbull, Wallingford, West Haven, Westport and Wethersfield.

West Nile virus can pose serious threat to health and affects people in the age group above 50, the most. The virus that is transmitted by mosquitoes is havoc for Connecticut this year, as told by Dr. Galvin.

An elderly resident of Clinton has also tested positive for WNV in the month of September and is lying in the hospital. He reflected symptoms like fever, severe headache, weakness and fatigue and lab tests confirmed the presence of WNV.

Till now, in this year, six people have become the victims of the WNV. Two other people, who went out of the state has also been reported by health authorities being infected with WNV.

Dr. Galvin has advised people to cover their body while going out, keep removing the stagnated water, using mosquito repellants and making outside visits less during evening time; so as to rescue from the attack of the mosquitoes.
