Scientists & Inspectors Speak about Political and Corporate Meddling in Their Wo

A survey that was released on Monday by the Union of Concerned Scientists, a group that advocates unbiased science in Government, informed that scientists and inspectors at the Federal Agencies, who are responsible to look after food safety, are of the view that every time, they see political and corporate intervention in their work.

The survey speaks of incessant troubles that the Government scientists informed about, when George W. Bush management was in power, and regardless of the pledges made by the Obama management, politicians still intervene in the scientists' work.

It has been more than a year since Obama management had assured that it would issue a new set of regulations, so as to safeguard scientific veracity.

A good level response to the survey was received from no less than 1,700 scientists and the inspectors working at the Food and Drug Administration and the Department of Agricultue.

The survey had been conducted by the Center for Survey Statistics and Methodology, at Iowa State University.

Francesca Grifo, Director of the Scientific Integrity Program at the Union of Concerned Scientists said that the study found that there was a dire need to cut the intervention of political and private sector in the work of science and investigation.

There are two very different organizations offering a similar response, which clearly denotes that broader reform to tackle the trouble is required.
