Dedicated YouTube channels for PS3 and Wii

The big-screen television YouTube experience in the living room is just a link away! YouTube's arrangement with Sony and Nintendo has brought about a new channel - YouTube for Television - which will be accessible through PS3 and Wii gaming consoles, via the link http://www.youtube.com/tv.

Going by the previews, YouTube for Television is "a dynamic, lean-back, 10-foot television viewing experience" for Internet connected consoles. An optional auto-play capability also allows users to view related videos sequentially, just like flicking through cable programs.

For the existing almost 20 million PS3 owners and 40 million Wii owners the world over, both Sony and Nintendo intend offering an easy-to-use interface for full size screens. One noteworthy console at present that lacks the YouTube for Television experience is the Xbox 360.

The entire experience has been made fairly simple by YouTube, with the help of streamlined navigation and enlarged text, so as to improve the performance on the built-in Web browsers PS3 and Wii. The initial feedback has it that the one for the Wii is better of the two offerings.

By and large, the dedicated YouTube channel - also offered in a few other set-top boxes - coming to gamers on their regular sets is just the beginning; it will also be made available in most of the new widget-enabled TVs.
