Toyota to showcase its all-electric version of RAV4

Japanese automaker, Toyota has said that it will be soon showcasing an-all new electric version of RAV4. This version is being developed in collaboration with Tesla Motors and will be used as plug-ins for Prius in the US.

Toyota said that the car will be introduced by mid of May or June of 2012. The information was given by the head of Toyota's R&D facility.

In addition to this, Takeshi Uchiyamada, Toyota executive vice president also said that Toyota will also be introducing a new set of gasoline tanks in six of its hybrid cars by the end of 2012. The same will be done on a worldwide basis.

The plug-ins, said the sources are such that they compete with the likes of Chevrolet Volt and the Nissan Leaf. Both these brands are going to go for sale by the end of this year in US.

Toyota also expects to sell close to 20,000 units by the end of this year and these are going to be priced in between $3,000-5,000 per unit. The price is a bit on the higher side as compared to the conventional gas-electric Prius.
