Bin Laden’s son Sa’ad moves out of Iran, enters Pakistan

US Intelligence has reported that Bin Laden’s son Sa’ad bin Laden has moved to Pakistan from Iran. He is considered to be the key figure in deteriorating relations between Iran and the Al Qaeda.

He had taken abode in Iran after the US-led invasion of Afghanistan. He is responsible for several al Qaeda attacks. It is believed that Sa’ad has been under house arrest.

According to the US government, the 1982 born Sa’ad was arrested in 2003 but may have left custody in September last year. A US counterterrorism official has remarked that the younger Laden is "a very well-connected apprentice terrorist."

According to the US Director of National Intelligence McConnell, Laden’s escape to Pakistan is a favorable move for the US counterterrorism efforts. "It's better for my world if any of these players are in places that we have access," he said.

The United States has imposed financial sanctions on Sa'ad bin Laden and three other members of al-Qaida. This means that any banks accounts or other financial assets belonging to Sa’ad found in the United States must be frozen. Americans also are forbidden from doing business with him.
