Los Angeles - Dwyane Wade carried the Miami Heat home on a high note.
Wade had 32 points with 10 assists, and the Heat beat the pesky Oklahoma City Thunder 104-94 on Sunday night, to complete its gruelling 13-day road trip with a 4-3 record.
"This is one of the toughest places to play in the league, and we needed very bad to close out a very positive road trip," Heat rookie coach Erik Spoelstra said.
"Dwyane was fantastic, with the confidence he gave the rest of the guys after getting off to that terrific start," he continued. "You could tell he was extremely focused at the beginning of the game, and that message was sent to the rest of the guys."
Yakhouba Diawara, filling in for injured forward Shawn Marion (groin strain), scored 14 points, Jamaal Magloire and Mario Chalmers added 13 points apiece for Miami (22-18), which also received 11 and 15 rebounds from Udonis Haslem.
"Always going to the West Coast, you're going to have difficulties out here for 13 days," Magloire said. "But we're focused, and we believe in coach's system. He's done a great job and this is the result."
Averaging a league-best 28 points per game, Wade had 21 by half- time, including 18 in the first quarter, carrying Miami to a 57-50 advantage.
With Wade resting on the bench, the Heat held an 86-73 advantage on Michael Beasley's two free throws to start the fourth quarter, The Thunder, however, began to make some noise.
Kevin Durant hit back-to-back three-pointers to cap an 8-0 run, and the hosts were within five. Wade, however, returned and knocked down consecutive jumpers from the left wing to make it 90-81.
Again, Oklahoma City pulled to within five, at 90-85 with 7:24 remaining, when Wade turned playmaker.
The All-Star guard spotted Chalmers for two three-pointers to bookend a game-sealing 11-2 run, and Daequan Cook for another triple, opening up a 101-87 cushion with 3:51 left.
"I have the ball in my hands a lot. I might shoot 20 shots a game or more, but I pass the ball a lot as well," Wade said.
"I set my team up for good shots, and they knock them down. To me, it's all about making plays, not only for yourself, but making plays for others."
Durant tossed in 31 points, Jeff Green scored 22, while rookie Russell Westbrook finished with 14 for league-worst Oklahoma City (8-34) which had its season-high two-game winning streak snapped. (dpa)
