Last night, HBO streamlined a fresh drama Boardwalk Empire to its channel, which attracted positive reviews in the United States.
The incorporation of a new drama was the need of the hour, as the cable channel's subscription figures were hovering around the lowest figures in past four years, as told by Hollywood Reporter. The drama’s beginning episodes are set in a prohibition era.
In an article in Hollywood Reporter, the cause of the decrease in the fame of HBO was the increase in the popularity of its cable competitors Showtime and AMC. The other factor can be recession that cut spending of many and the cable was also one of the shunned off commodities.
But, HBO is still optimistic regarding is subscriber base. Jeff Cusson, the Senior Vice President of corporate affairs told that there was just 1% decline in their subscription and the channel would make profits out of this year.
"As a driver of the pay television category with the largest subscriber base, we are not immune to an industry-wide multichannel household drop", said Mr. Cusson.
Boardwalk Empire is now the major source to push HBO’s subscription, which has been launched on pilot basis by incurring cost worth $20m. The show is indeed an expensive project, with each episode costing about $5m.
