De Jong close to Man City move from Hamburg after club agreement

Hamburg  - SV Hamburg are ready to let Nigel de Jong go to Manchester City for a club record fee if the Dutch midfielder agrees to terms with the English club.

"The clubs have reached an agreement. Now de Jong must come to terms with Manchester," Hamburg spokesman Joern Wolf said on Monday.

De Jong's advisor is reportedly in talks with Manchester City to finalize the January move.

Manchester City are reportedly ready to spend 20 million euros (26.6 million dollars) for de Jong, 24, who came to the Bundesliga club Hamburg from Ajax Amsterdam in
2006 for 1.5 million euros.

The fee would be bigger than the 15 million euros Hamburg got in summer from Real Madrid for Rafael van der Vaart.

If the deal goes through, de Jong would team up again with Belgian central defender Vincent Kompany who left Hamburg for Manchester City last August for an undisclosed fee reported to be around 9 million euros. (dpa)
