Android 2.2 ‘Froyo’ update officially releasing for Motorola Droid X
Android 2.2 ‘Froyo’ update officially releasing for Motorola Droid X

Even though installed the earlier-this-month leaked Droid X Froyo ROM to update their Motorola Droid X handsets, a recent Verizon announcement has revealed that the OTA firmware update will officially be released today, September 22.

According to Verizon, the OTA updates will be released in batches. However, those Droid X users who cannot wait for the official implementation can manually update to the Android 2.2 ‘Froyo’ by themselves.

For the details on the manual update procedure, the Droid X users need to go to the system updates section in the ‘Settings’ section of the handset’s software, and follow the instructions therein.

In fact, even for users who pulled the trigger early on and installed the leaked Droid X Froyo ROM, but now want to get back to Android 2.1 before the official update comes out, Droid-Life has posted guidelines for the procedure involved, with the admonition that any mess of the handset during the process will be the responsibility of the device’s owner.

With the Android 2.2 ‘Froyo’ version becoming available on the Droid X, the handset’s users, like the owners of the Droid Incredible – which already has the 2.2 Froyo update running – will be able to avail a number of notable features, including full Adobe Flash Player 10.1 support, and a much speedier loading of web pages in the browser.
