US stock exchanges closed for Martin Luther King DayWashington  - US stock markets remained closed for trading on Monday in honour of Martin Luther King Day, a federal holiday that commemorates the assassinated civil rights leader.

Markets will reopen on Tuesday, despite the public festivities around the inauguration of Democrat Barack Obama as US president. The day is a work-free day only for US government workers in the Washington region. (dpa)
