On Wednesday, Abbott Laboratories Inc. announced that it is planning to recall around 5 million units of infant formula after beetles and larvae were found in the product at a plant in Michigan.
Since the news of the recall of Similac baby formula has spread, many parents are worried and trying to confirm that their children haven't consumed the contaminated product.
After the incident, a lot of people made calls at the call center of Abbott to inquire about the tainted product. The Company’s website also crashed after being too busy, as many people visited its site to gather information regarding the baby formula.
Abbott officials said that in the wake of increased amount of calls and website traffic, they have boosted its call center resources and the bandwidth of its websites.
The U. S. Food and Drug Administration has mentioned that people should not panic as there is no immediate health risk due to the formula. The FDA also said that those babies who have consumed the contaminated product may experience gastrointestinal discomfort.
The withdrawal of the tainted product is limited to the United States, Puerto Rico, Guam, and some nations in the Caribbean region.
Shannon Patten, who is the Spokeswoman of Publix, said that all the stores have been instructed to remove the product and sent them back to the warehouse.
