Infant formula calling off

The Similac based powder infant feed has been stated to be affected with small beetles and their larvae, asking an immediate calling -off from Abbot Labs to release a voluntary withdrawal.

The affected products were seemingly called off from the retail outlets and medical facilities of USA, Puerto Rico, Guam and some Caribbean islands, which according to the maker Abbott, was a defect found in one of the production units itself.

Abbott was quick to add that chances of having beetle or larvae contamination risk is rare. The company further states that the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) claims that infant products affected with beetles "pose no immediate health risk".

However, health experts warn that babies might develop gastrointestinal discomfort which might feature as source of irritation and put the baby off eating.

Meanwhile Abbott adds, "Should any parent or caregiver detect gastrointestinal symptoms that last more than a couple of days, they should consult a health care professional."
