Unilever Aims to Become World’s Largest Seller of Hair Care Products

It has been said by Anglo-Dutch consumer goods giant, Unilever PLC that by paying GBP3.7 billion in cash, it has made a huge purchase of U. S. rival Alberto Culver Co.

Companies like TRESemme, Simple and Alberto VO5 are now part of Unilever's portfolio of personal care brands.

According to the Company, this deal would help them to stand at number one position for selling hair conditioning products, the second-largest in shampoo and third in styling.

The hair care presence of the Company has also been enhanced in Canada, the U. K, the U. S, Australasia and Mexico with the help of new achievement of Unilever. All these countries have good hair care markets for upcoming years.

As much as $1.6 billion sales has been achieved by Alberto Culver in the year to June, with revenues above $250 million. Founder Leonard Lavin's family partly owns the Company.

Chief Executive of Unilever, Paul Polman is of the view that its existing brands included Dove, Clear and Sunsilk in hair care will definitely gel well with its acquired brands like Nexxus and St. Ives.

"Ten years ago it represented 20% of our turnover; strong organic growth has driven it to now reach over 30%, with strong positions in many of the emerging markets", said Polman.
