Volvo's Pedestrian Safety System Doubted

Many have raised questions on the working of Volvo's new pedestrian detection system, which is functioned to automatically halt the car, while seeing one walking.

An Australian website, Auto Advice, is reported to have posed doubts on the system. In addition, Videos have also supported the claim. However U.S. Volvo officials have posted that the system works perfectly.

The system, on 2011 S60s and the V60 wagon make use of radars and cameras for sensing walkers and stopping the car. The system is claimed to crop up, as a breakthrough for ensuring safety.

Volvo has claimed that the system can assist in preventing a collision at speeds up to 22 mph.

It features LED lamps up front, sleeker sheetmetal and a reworked tail that works on LED technology. However, the new S60 is instantly recognizable as a Volvo, claims the statement.

It is reported that in total, 25%of the Australian media's demonstration runs, witnessed the new Volvo S60 assist in cleaning up a simulated pedestrian, with the required force in a view to cause significant trauma in a live pedestrian.

The robust system is designed so that it can scan objects, feed them with a database onboard of as many as 10,000 pictures of humans, and produce the required output.
