The Fox drama ‘Lie To Me’ on Imagine TV Tim Roth as Dr. Cal Lightman, a scientist researching how to detect lies through facial expressions and body language. ‘These expressions are universal,’ he tells one group of students, ‘Emotion looks the same, whether you’re a suburban housewife or a suicide bomber. Truth is written on all our faces.’
Using his skills to help feds, government agencies and the local cops, he is helped in his endeavours by his partner Dr. Gillian Foster (Kelli Williams), a psychologist and quirky researcher Eli Loker (Brendan Hines), including Ria Torres (Monica Raymund), an all-around deception detector.
The drama’s pilot shows Lightman and team analyzing a murder case, in which the assailant is not quite as obvious, as it seems, initially. The way they eliminate suspects and point the finger at others, is often far-fetched, however, the drama’s stylistic under-pinnings, yield an intriguing mystery by themselves.
It remains to be seen, whether the viewers like this crime procedural drama of an acerbic scientist, whose work revolves around the simple premise that everyone is a liar. Also part of this episode of ‘Lie To Me’ is a congressman, who refuses to defend himself, when caught in a potential sex scandal. (Pamela Sahi contributed to this report.)
